DPRC Programs and Services
Adult Prevention Programs - Outreach workers deliver the
prevention message via health departments and other public locations
using videos and printed materials. These programs are offered
throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties.
Power Tools for Parents - Six-hour drug education and parental
management program. Includes videos, workbook and discussion. Available
in English and Spanish. Workbooks are also available in Haitian. This
program is available This program is available for any group requesting
it in the Polk, Highlands, and Hardee Counties.
Hispanic Prevention Outreach - Delivers prevention message to
the Hispanic population via one-on-one and small group presentations
using Spanish videos and Spanish and Haitian materials. This program is
offered in Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties.
Drug Free Puppet Shows -
"By Applebee Pond" is a puppet show targeted at children ages K-3rd
and teaches the drug prevention message through the use of nine animal puppets.
For 4th & 5th graders,
child-like puppets are used to present "Proud To Be Drug Free."
These programs are very popular and are available upon request in Polk,
Highlands and Hardee Counties.
Youth Drug Education Course - Three-hour information and
education course for youth ages 12-17. Program focuses on drug
prevention and also touches on identification, youth peer pressure and
making good decisions. Fee of $15.00 to attend. Held regularly in Lakeland,
Lake Wales and Sebring.
Anger Management Course -
Three-hour course for youth ages 12-17. The purpose of this
program is to share and explore the appropriate ways to express
anger. Program includes role-play activities, and class
discussion. Fee is $15.00 to attend. Held regularly in
Lakeland.
Just Say No Rally - A special Rally for Lakeland's 5th graders
held at the Lakeland Center. Features a national speaker
who delivers a message encouraging a drug-free lifestyle and positive
peer pressure.
Red Ribbon Month - Public awareness event to show support for a
drug-free community in October. The month ends with the annual Red Ribbon Run for youth and adults.
Literature and Awareness - Comprehensive lending library of
books, videos and printed literature open to the public during office
hours of 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Referrals - Free help line that provides information and
referrals to area drug and alcohol rehab services and self-help groups.
Education and Training - Providing free workshops about
alcohol and drug abuse information. The agency also participates in
health fairs and provides speakers upon request in the Polk, Highlands,
and Hardee Counties.
